I have found some great ideas on You Tube and I have put together a simple 10 Minute Tummy Tone workout for beginners.

Also, if you live in the London area I can highly recommend Elanor Wallis-Scott at zest for life pilates. Elanor very kindly contributed the Flat Tummy Mummy chapter in the forthcoming Flat Tummy Club Diet and from a personal point of view just an hour with Elanor and you will soon get to know your 'core' and discover the very best way to do pelvic floor exercises!

If you are pregnant or have just had a baby always check with your doctor what exercise is right for you. Clearly you don't need a flat tummy anyway if you are pregnant but there are some fitness specialists who do gentle Pilates or yoga for pregnancy. And the rule of thumb getting back into exercise after having a baby is to wait for 6 weeks, but the absolute key is talking to your own doctor and health visitor.

And if you have back problems I know finding tummy exercises is difficult because you worry about putting any strain on your back if you get the exercise even slightly wrong. It's why swimming is such a brilliant form of exercise, putting no strain on your body but giving you a great workout. Ironically, the stronger your abdominals are the more they can help to support your back.

You need to feel confident in the exercises you do so always talk to a medical professional for individual advice before starting any kind of fitness programme.
