Immune Boosters from the Flat Tummy Club
Summer colds can be nasty and make you feel rubbish while other are all having a great time. Here are a few tips to help out.
No surprises here but the more fruit and veg you can cram into your day then the more immune boosting vitamins you will take on board, especially vitamin C. And I’ve learnt that taking a big load of vitamin C all in one go isn’t such a great idea as you won’t absorb it all and it’ll just go straight through you. Berries are particularly good, as are green leafy vegetables.
Clipper Tea do a very tasty green tea with Echinacea variety, the perfect combination for this time of the year as green tea helps with weight loss while Echinacea will help in warding off colds.
Vitamin E helps too, and can be found in nuts and seeds, and olive oil.
Get some Omega 3 fatty acids into your weekly diet with oily fish, walnuts, olive oil and kidney beans, which are all a good source.
Probiotics can be good at this time, so natural yoghurts are a good idea.
Where you can, add garlic to your recipes. Garlic and onions are great natural flu fighters.
Crussh do a lovely ‘flu fighter’ made with apple, pear, lemon and ginger. You can also try making your own at home by warming honey, lemon juice, crushed ginger, water and if you are brave add some garlic and cayenne pepper for extra strength!
And thyme infused honey is great for a sore throat.
